This is comparable to the comprehensive, ephemeral baseball statistic that is “WAR,” or Wins Above Replacement — which “attempts to measure a player’s overall value to a team by positing how many wins he is worth when compared to a replacement-level player.” In the end, we should all want to have a positive impact — a positive WAR, if you will — for our organization, enough so that AI or no AI, whether PPE matters to our company or not, we provide demonstrable value to our organization over any potential replacement — man, woman, or even machine! What goes into determining our personal WAR statistic for our work is an individualized calculation, and it is likely very hard for any company, let alone an individual worker, to really calculate and measure. However, if we show effort, enthusiasm, competence, and dependability, each of us can survive — and thrive — in the increasingly uncertain — and competitive — and AI-augmented — organizational environments we find ourselves working in today — and tomorrow.
