I feel I lost a big part of my life never knowing my birth father. It’s hard to explain how I could mourn the loss of a parent I never knew or met, but I do. It is one of those unexplainable facts of life and I’ve read others in similar situations say the same, so I know it’s not just me. Knowing one’s identity involves knowledge of both mother and father. Denying such important information to adoptees creates lifelong trauma.
