The ladder

The career ladder has long symbolized success. The higher you climb, the more influence and prestige you gain. Some climb until retirement, while others stop sooner. Some even step off it entirely.

But as we ascend, it’s worth asking: Where are we going, and why? For some, the climb is exhilarating and a measure of ambition and achievement. For others, it strays from personal fulfillment. Is the ladder worth it, or should we reconsider what success means altogether?

The ladder isn’t for everyone, nor should it be. I have known many content people who measure success in job satisfaction, stability, and a peaceful life. Not a bad definition of success, right?

It is a wonderful feeling to be happy and satisfied with your work. There’s a certain freedom in leaving work at the office, while others choose to sacrifice personal time for career progression.

Some constantly push higher. For them, climbing is a way of life. But does not reaching the top mean failure? That depends…
